I am a glass half full person.
A legislator needs to be.
It takes a few sessions to get your bills passed.
When your legislation is finally enacted, it’s often pared down.
Sometimes you’re able to include language which sets the stage for the next bill to restore the provisions that were stricken from the first bill.
During this final week of the session, deciding what compromises to accept is a frequent occurrence.
Before I left for work this morning, I heard Congressman James Clyburn on Morning Joe.
“I keep filling up that glass,” he declared.
He also talked about what his mother would do before leaving the house in segregated South Carolina.
“She would carry a bucket,” recalled Clyburn. “The colored bathrooms were so dirty.”
